Via Ferrata
Via Ferrata is a fantastic method of getting around the mountains and onto rock faces without having to be an accomplished climber, or super fit. In the area are a bunch of fantastic Via Ferrata, of all grades and lengths.
What is Via Ferrata?
Via Ferrata are routes built around the mountains/across rock faces with steel cable, grips and foot holds. They were originally built by the soldiers during the Second World War as a means of travelling through the mountains and getting guns and ammunition to strategic points. Since then they have proven to be such a fun and exhilarating way of getting into and around the mountains they have slowly become a sport in their own right.
Wearing a climbing harness with two short ropes attached, with special easy opening/locking karabiners on the end of each, you can travel across steep rock faces whilst always being protected by having one karabiner clipped onto the steel cable at all times, you can then also pass the fixed points (points where the steel cable is fixed onto the rock) by un-clipping and re-clipping one at a time – meaning that at all times you are clipped in and safe!
