Mountaineering
Mountaineers have been striving to reach summits for centuries, quite possibly starting 5,300 years ago with ‘Otzi’ who ascended at least 3000m in the Alps. Although it is unknown whether his intention was to reach a summit, his remains were found at this altitude preserved in glacial ice. Since this time the popularity of mountaineering has been steadily increasing and with it the highest and hardest peaks in the world conquered...
Mont Blanc was ascended in 1786 by Dr Michel Paccard and Jacques Balmat.
Mount Everest (8,848 m) was first climbed on May 29, 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay from the south side in Nepal.
Just a few months later, Hermann Buhl made the first ascent of Nanga Parbat (8,125 m), a siege style expedition culminating in a remarkable solo push for the summit; it's the only eight-thousander to be summited solo on the first ascent.
K2 (8,611 m), the second highest peak in the world was first scaled in 1954.
Mountaineering is great way of experiencing the mountain elements, and having a guide with you can make your experience safer and more effective. Whatever your aspirations are; exploring a Glacier, climbing a specific mountain peak/Route, or just having a fun safe day out in the mountains – everything is possible.
